Atlanta Memorial Park + Bitsy Grant Tennis Center

Atlanta Memorial Park
Working with the Atlanta Memorial Parks Conservancy, HGOR lead a six month public input and participation process to develop a long term Park Master Plan. The 174-acre green space represents a potentially valuable community asset as a regional park surrounded by six vibrant neighborhoods.

The final Master Plan called for increased passive green space, a new 18-hole golf course and Pro-Shop, a pedestrian trail system circumventing golf and tennis and twelve new tennis courts on top of 350 below grade parking spaces.

Bitsy Grant Tennis Center
HGOR provided planning and design for the new state of the art platform tennis complex at Bitsy Grant Tennis Center.  The complex consists of three lighted platform courts, an award winning warming hut named the Bitsy Bunker, and a platform viewing deck connected to the PATH system. The Bitsy Bunker received its name because the building is tucked into the hillside of the center’s rolling topography making for a highly efficient and sustainable space. The stormwater management area is tucked below the courts platform deck thus concealing this from view and reducing the overall development footprint. The platform courts are considered the first phase of the Atlanta Memorial Park Master Plan implementation.
