A new model for the student-centered commuter campus.
HGOR led master planning for Lanier Technical College, re-envisioning how a commuter campus can be organized around student experience rather than vehicular dominance. The plan establishes a cohesive campus framework anchored by a central quadrangle that supports both efficient circulation and meaningful social interaction. By carefully integrating existing landforms and infrastructure, HGOR delivered a high-performing campus that balances functionality, cost efficiency, and long-term value, creating a model for technical education environments across the region.
Reclaiming the Campus
Traditionally, commuter campuses prioritize vehicles over people. HGOR restructured the campus to maintain efficient vehicular access while shifting the focus toward walkability and student interaction. A central quad organizes the six campus buildings, creating a shared space that encourages connection, gathering, and daily engagement between students and faculty.
Leveraging the Land
A key driver of the plan was to deliver a high-quality campus within strict budget constraints. HGOR leveraged existing landforms, grade relationships, and remnants of prior infrastructure to reduce construction costs and long-term maintenance needs. Strategic grading and layout decisions allowed the campus to achieve both functional performance and financial efficiency without compromising the student experience.

A Campus Built for Growth and Performance
Opened in 2019, the new campus has the capacity to serve 5,000 students, allowing the College to double the size of its student population. Specifically designed to support programs in high-demand fields such as healthcare, energy, business, and public service, the campus has become a model for technical colleges in the region, supporting a 100% job placement rate over six consecutive years.
