The Yards at The Assembly

The Yards at The Assembly

The Yards at The Assembly includes office, retail and residential components aim to bring together industry, community and art to define the next generation of mixed use development. Office, retail and residential components which aim to bring together industry, community and art to define the next generation of mixed use to Atlanta’s largest transit oriented development.

The Assembly is a progressive, adaptive reuse community; a one-of-a-kind hub for art, technology, creativity, living, recreation and commerce. Every part of this unconventional development is specifically designed to meet the needs and desires of its citizens and neighbors—whether individual, civic or corporate. From residential lofts and food halls to a rail park and a film studio. From workspaces to makers’ spaces to public spaces, this seamless, multi-purpose urban destination holds a surprise around every corner.

The Yards is the first adaptive reuse district within the Assembly to be developed. It aims to create an industrial feel which is raw, organic and true to the history of the site. The design strategy was built around integrating architectural elements from the remains of the historical General Motors elements, vertical structures and rail line components to create The Yards unique identity. Whether it be the future architecture or the spirit of the outdoor environments created, The Yards will be a celebration of the rich history of the General Motors and the City of Doraville.

The first phase of The Yards infrastructure includes nearly 30 acres of streetscape, sustainable, smart water quality management and over two miles of multi-use trails, known as the AssemblyLine. This trail system transforms existing rail lines, which formerly serviced the General Motors plant, into vibrant trails, designed to draw visitors from all over the southeast.

Third Rail Studio opened in 2017 and Serta Simmons Bedding announced a 250,000 sf facility, including their corporate headquarters, research and development labs, and an international showroom, set to open in 2020.
