Atlanta-Based HGOR Wins Two Top Awards from the
Georgia Chapter of ASLA

Planning and Landscape Architecture Firm Recognized for Work with
University of Georgia and Cox Enterprises

ATLANTA, September 15, 2008 – HGOR, an Atlanta-based planning and landscape architecture firm, recently won two of the top awards from the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (GAASLA). HGOR received a Merit Award for its University of Georgia Health Sciences Center Campus project and an Honor Award for its Cox Enterprises Headquarters Campus project.

"Our team has created unique designs that go beyond the physical elements," said Bob Hughes, Principal with HGOR. "It’s about integrating all the elements of the site to create a unified vision and sense of place. Both projects required a critical view of the planning process and a collaborative relationship with the communities they will serve. We are proud to be recognized for our commitment and dedication to these projects."

HGOR earned the GAASLA Merit Award in planning for the University of Georgia Health Sciences Center. The master plan provides a sustainable vision for the reuse of the Navy Supply Corps School property, a U.S. Navy Base slated for closure in 2012. The HGOR team worked closely with UGA to develop a plan integrating existing historical and cultural resources into the vastly expanded physical framework of UGA’s new medical school.

The GAASLA Honor Award was given to HGOR for its work on the Cox Enterprises Headquarters Campus. HGOR took special care in collaborating with the facility’s design team to ensure that its exterior designs correlated with the architecture of the building. HGOR emphasized environmental stewardship in its exterior designs, while also integrating native plant life into the ten-acre permanent woodland park and three-acre outdoor garden.

Both projects support HGOR’s SEE Solutions philosophy. This philosophy maintains and exemplifies a perceptive balance of the Social, Economic and Environmental considerations involved in each project. HGOR recognizes that no two projects are alike, but these three core elements are always significant parts of the blend: creating a great place where people want to be; honoring real budgets, real schedules, and real expectations; and embracing environmental stewardship.

HGOR is a nationally recognized firm that embraces the challenges of creating places of social value, economic sustainability and environmental stewardship. With a staff of planners, urban designers, landscape architects, environmental specialists and support staff, HGOR focuses on quality service and innovative solutions to complex design issues.
